Our commitment to diversity and equality

 What we talk about

We are committed to:

  • Providing a safe and inclusive platform for all fans of women’s football.

  • Including perspectives and representation of those involved in women’s football across all ages, cognitive differences, disabilities, ethnicities, genders, races, religions and sexual orientations.

  • Providing a true representation of the women’s football industry, whether good or bad.

  • Advocating for change in the industry where needed.

How we do it:

  • Reviewing the language used across our site to ensure it is inclusive.

  • Actively seeking out content of a diverse nature by researching and contacting underrepresented groups and projects.

  • Verifying all that we publish and offering the right to reply in all necessary cases.

 Who we work with

We are committed to:

  • Awarding fairly paid opportunities to contribute content, particularly to those in minority groups.

  • Working only with companies and brands that advocate for and act in the interest of diversity and equality.

How we do it:

  • Our payment rates for commissioned content are in line with UK NUJ guidance.

  • When commissioning authors we are conscious of having a diverse pool of writers and voices.

  • We investigate the backgrounds and affiliations of companies and brands before working with them.

 Where we put our money

We are committed to:

  • Buying products from companies and brands that advocate for and act in the interest of diversity and equality.

  • Sponsoring individuals and teams in women’s football that advocate for and act in the interest of diversity and equality.

During the 2020/21 season we are committed to:

  • A minimum of 50 per cent of sponsorship money we spend going towards female players of colour, female coaches of colour or female referees of colour.

  • Giving a monthly donation to Sporting Equals, a charity promoting ethnic diversity in sport and physical activity.

How we do it:

  • We investigate the backgrounds and affiliations of companies and brands before buying products from them.

  • We will be putting a call out for those that want to be sponsored across our social media channels in the lead up to the 2020/21 season.

  • We will be actively searching for minorities looking for sponsorship so they can continue to participate in the game.

How we conduct ourselves

We are committed to:

  • Regularly reviewing our commitment to diversity and equality statement and our actions to demonstrate that commitment.

  • Being held accountable to our statement by ourselves and others.

  • Being open to conversation and suggestions for improvement.

  • Learning as much as we can.

  • Challenging oppressive or inappropriate beliefs of those we interact with.

How we do it:

  • We review this commitment statement once a month to assess whether we are acting in the way we should be.

  • We invite anyone to get in touch with us and share their thoughts on what we could be doing better.

  • We read, watch and listen as much as possible in order to learn about how we can be a better ally to minorities.

  • We will not tolerate offensive or inappropriate comments on social media – appropriate action will always be taken against these.

This is our commitment to you. If at any point you feel we are failing in this commitment, please don’t hesitate to let us know. fto@fromtheoff.co.uk
